Product Overview
ADDSiL™ 5039 is a silicone-based defoamer based on modified polydimethylsiloxane. It is intended primarily for foam control during the preparation and processing of waterborne coatings, printing inks and pigment concentrates. The TDS also permits evaluation in selected medium- to high-polarity solvent-borne coatings.
Key Features
- Effective foam control at low addition levels.
- Particularly suitable for the grinding or dispersing stage.
- Suitable for aqueous pigment concentrates.
Physical Properties
| Property | Reported value |
|---|---|
| Appearance | Milk-white, cloudy liquid |
| Active content | 100% |
| Viscosity (25°C) | 500–3,000 mPa·s |
Selected values from the original TDS. Refer to that document for conditions and whether values are typical or specification limits.
Typical Applications
- Waterborne coatings and aqueous pigment concentrates during grinding and processing.
- Printing inks.
- Selected medium- to high-polarity solvent-borne coating systems, subject to evaluation.
Technical Considerations
The TDS recommends 0.1–1.0% as supplied, based on the total formulation. Preferably add during grinding to distribute the defoamer throughout the formulation. Determine the final level through laboratory trials for the actual formulation and process.
Reported physical values are typical, not specifications. Store in the original unopened packaging in a dry place at room temperature. The stated shelf life is 12 months from manufacture. Consult the current SDS before handling.
